Diflucan® Partnership Program

Pfizer Inc. makes available, free of charge, the antifungal medicine, Diflucan® (fluconazole), to organizations in sub-Saharan Africa and the Least Developed Countries most in need. Countries with a greater than 1 percent HIV/AIDS prevalence are given priority.

Diflucan® is being offered to treat two opportunistic infections, Cryptococcal meningitis and Esophageal candidiasis.

Cryptococcal meningitis is an infection of the lining of the brain that afflicts approximately 10 percent of AIDS patients. Esophageal candidiasis is an infection of the esophagus that afflicts an estimated 30 percent of AIDS patients.

The program includes not only the provision of Diflucan® through the government sector, but also the training of health professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of opportunistic infections.

In an effort to expand access to Diflucan®, Pfizer is also making the Diflucan Partnership Program available to non-governmental organizations active in HIV/AIDS care.
